Hello, Verified News Community! Welcome to VNN’s This Month in America September 2021. It’s Rachael Schuit, here to tell you that our local and national news coverage is expanding.
Let’s start with Indian Country. A lot of great stories for Muscogee Nation this month, including a huge win for freedom of the press. The Muscogee Nation became the first Native American tribe to make free press part of their constitution. The Nation also rolled out the application for COVID assistance as part of their new Camphouse Portal.
In case you missed it- VNN now puts together highlights from Oklahoma Media Center’s “Promised Land” project mid-month, featuring state and Native American stories related to last year’s McGirt versus Oklahoma Supreme Court ruling.
We had some great local business news this September, as well.
Like how Sarah Aschkenas operates Coworking Bravely in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A dedicated space for a growing community of female entrepreneurs, small business owners, and other goal-driven women to work and prosper.
Over in Binghamton, New York, the Black Fly Market had its second event of the season. You’ll have one more chance to find a variety of Black vendors joining forces next month, giving the community an opportunity to come out and support multiple Black businesses at once.
In national news, scientists are sounding the alarm on the effects climate change is having on the food supply. And Pfizer announced its COVID vaccine is deemed safe for kids 5 to 11 years old.
Our local news affiliates Mvskoke Media, The Frontier, and Big If True have been hard at work, sharing stories you won’t see anywhere else.
And if you’ve noticed VNN looks a little greener lately, that’s because we have a new weekly series called “CANNABIS WEEKLY” presented by Elevate Holistics.
The telehealth platform focuses on making medical cannabis processes as simple and easy as possible. Through collaboration with your physician and Elevate staff, you have everything you need to Elevate your health naturally. Latest stories include “Here’s Where to Take a Marijuana-Themed Vacation” and “The Ultimate Guide to Cannabis Stash Boxes”.
We have more stories you won’t see anywhere else in the pipeline for next month- including an Illustrated News Story about April Wilkens like you’ve never heard it – or seen it- before. We included a sneak preview in this month’s TMIA.
If you haven’t bookmarked us or saved the VNN app to your home screen on your smart phone, now is the time. Subscribe to VNN’s YouTube channel to chime in on our livestreams, and this Substack? It’s filling up with behind-the-scenes insight and information about stories before they’re published. Next month, our Patreon gets even more personal.
