Hello, Verified News Community! Welcome to VNN’s This Month In America- October 2021. Here’s Jennah James.
It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we’re bringing some issues to light.
In Oklahoma, it’s the case of April Wilkens. A woman sentenced to life in prison for killing her rapist and abuser Terry Carlton, son of Tulsa millionaire Don Carlton. She was locked away in the late nineties and is still currently incarcerated- despite evidence proving she was a victim of domestic violence and other abuse for months at the hands of the man she killed.
In Michigan, we spoke with a local expert to help people understand why it’s not easy for victims to just up and leave their abusers. Including ways abusers intentionally make it difficult for their victims to get away.
And how about some October tornados?
The south was hit with a significant line of severe weather earlier this month. National Weather Service says they believe 7 tornadoes spun northeast across Oklahoma. Lots of property and tree damage. Thankfully, no injuries.
Speaking of trees, CANNABIS WEEKLY did not disappoint this October. Thanks to Elevate Holistics for presenting stories such as “The Skinny on Cannabis Grinders” and “10 Fascinating Cannabis Facts You May Not Know”. Elevate Holistics isn’t here just to entertain, they also educate their clients and help people get their medical marijuana cards from the comfort of their own homes, too.
Over in New York, a Write-in candidate is hoping to win big in Binghamton's upcoming election. Mayoral candidate Ken Butler isn’t giving up on being a voice for the people, even after heavy political hitters tried to keep him out of the race.
How about we end on some positivity? One of our favorites: entrepreneur news.
Staying in New York, a 19-year-old is looking to make her beauty mark in Broome County cosmetology. Elaina Ervin not only offers hair and make-up services, but she also offers products and instruction for customers to do their own make-up at home.
And wrapping it up with Muscogee Nation- serial entrepreneur Phillip Agee tells us the best way to guarantee a great defense is by preparing for it in real life. His one-stop shop for defense K-O Fitness and Firearms is empowering community members to take protection into their own hands.
