The importance of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and why Martin Scorsese has changed the course of filmmaking
(OSAGE NATION) Sitting down with actors Jesse Plemons, Tatanka Means and William Belleau, it’s clear there is a bond between the three men. They shared a unique experience when they filmed “Killers of the Flower Moon” on the Osage Reservation in 2021. The film, based on David Grann’s best-selling book of the same name and directed by Martin Scorsese, goes into the true story of the systematic killings of the Osage people in the 1920s.
Medical School on Cherokee Reservation Will Soon Send Doctors to Tribal, Rural Areas
(CHEROKEE NATION) Ashton Glover Gatewood decided to give medical school a second try after learning about a new campus designed for Indigenous students like herself. Gatewood is now set to be part of the first graduating class at Oklahoma State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation. Leaders say the physician training program is the only one on a Native American reservation and affiliated with a tribal government.
Ho-Chunk activist drives for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women
(MUSCOGEE RESERVATION) For Elizabeth Johnson (Ho-Chunk) activism and livelihood are intertwined, and on the road. Johnson owns and operates Ho-Chunk Trucking and has used the original white sides of her trailer as a blank canvas to raise awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women (MMIW). On Oct 4, Johnson spoke with Mvskoke Media’s Emvpanaya about her work and activism.
