Five tribes decline to participate in state governor’s task force
(MUSCOGEE NATION) Tensions between Oklahoma’s tribal governments and Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt’s administration are already ramping up in 2024. This week, the Inter-Tribal Council of The Five Civilized Tribes (ITC) leaders (Muscogee Creek, Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole) announced they will not take part in Stitt’s newly created “One Oklahoma Task Force.”
Lily Gladstone makes history during 2024 Golden Globes
(OSAGE NATION) Actress Lily Gladstone (Blackfeet/Nez Perce) made history Sunday night, becoming the first Indigenous actress to win a Golden Globe. Gladstone won Best Performance by a Female Actor – Motion Picture, Drama for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's blockbuster film "Killers of the Flower Moon", starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Indigenous Allyship dinner establishes appetite for positive dialogue
(OKLAHOMA) When VNN and Osage News teamed up with several other organizations to hold an “Exploring Indigenous Allyship” community dinner and discussion at Philbrook last fall, the goal was to simply start conversations about conversations. With the second largest American Indian population in the United States, Oklahoma’s municipal, state and tribal governments are tasked with working together for their people, many of whom fall under multiple jurisdictions.

(OKLAHOMA) Oklahoma is a complex state of multiple levels of government. Local municipalities and the state work alongside, and ideally with, 39 tribal nations, all of which have their own governing bodies. The Oklahoma Municipal League (OML), a statewide association that provides information and training for effective municipal governing, is also dedicated to creating commonality between tribes and municipalities through building communication streams, unity, and combining shared resources.
