Monroe Nichols sworn in as mayor, pledges to support tribal sovereignty
(OKLAHOMA) Monroe Nichols is officially Tulsa’s 41st mayor, and the first Black mayor of Tulsa following his historic inauguration on Monday.
During his inaugural address, Nichols promised a new day for the City of Tulsa and stressed the importance of including all groups at the table, including Native partners.
Mvskoke Allotment Map Gains Renewed Attention
(OKLAHOMA) An Interactive Allotment Map of 1910 Mvskoke Allotments by the Museum Broken Arrow is gaining renewed interest after a viral Native American Heritage Month Facebook post by Museum Director Mickel Yantz.
The map, produced in conjunction with the Geographic Information System Department (GIS) at the City of Broken Arrow in 2022, shows a contemporary Tulsa area map overlaid with the historical allotments of Mvskoke citizens and Freedmen from Hastain’s Township Plats of the Creek Nation.
Lawsuit claims Oklahoma’s bullying complaint investigation process is inadequate
(OKLAHOMA) A lawsuit claims the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s system for tracking bullying complaints lacks transparency, violating families’ legal rights.
A grandmother from Park Hill near Tahlequah who has custody of her two grandchildren filed the lawsuit against State Superintendent Ryan Walters and the State Department of Education in November in Oklahoma County District Court.
