Investigation finds OPS violated Title IX prior to death of Nex Benedict
(OKLAHOMA) The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has completed its investigation into Owasso Public Schools after a complaint was filed by the Human Rights Campaign following a student’s death earlier this year.
16-year-old Nex Benedict was found to have committed suicide a day after they were assaulted by multiple students in an Owasso High School bathroom.
Community meeting at McIntosh Fairgrounds discussed proposed wind farm
(MUSCOGEE RESERVATION) The McIntosh County Commissioners held a community meeting at the Eufaula fairgrounds, Nov 7, to discuss a planned wind farm near Hanna. The meeting came on the heels of a Monday, Nov 3, meeting at the Eufaula Indian Community Center where citizens expressed concerns over the project to MCN Principal Chief David Hill.
The Canadian-based company, TransAlta Corps, has been working on this project since 2022, which has a scope of 100 turbines. The power company has already secured leases on more than 22,000 acres of land from around 25 land owners.
Barbie welcomes Maria Tallchief to the Barbie Inspiring Women Series
(OSAGE RESERVATION) Maria Tallchief, proud Osage woman whose grace and talent catapulted her to fame as America’s first prima ballerina, has been memorialized as one of the world’s most recognizable toys, a Barbie doll.
To commemorate this historic event, the Osage Nation will celebrate the launch of the new Barbie Inspiring Women doll created to honor Tallchief on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, at 10 a.m., at the Constantine Theater in Pawhuska. This announcement partners with Mattel Inc.’s Barbie® brand, Maria Tallchief’s family, and the Osage community. The Barbie Inspiring Women line by Mattel celebrates trailblazing women throughout history, capturing their likeness in stunning detail.
