1 Girl Revolution is a multimedia enterprise that highlights the stories of everyday women who are changing the world through their lives.
Kate Milligan, Founder and CEO of 1 Girl Revolution and Host of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, is an Emmy-nominated producer, writer, speaker, and story-teller. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Franciscan University of Steubenville and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs and Political Communication from the Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland.
“We are excited to partner with VNN in our shared mission to highlight the stories of real people and real communities, and stories that often go untold and forgotten. We are grateful for the incredible work that VNN does, and we look forward to all that they have to come - and we are thrilled to be a part of VNN's future. We have big plans to collaborate on projects, as it makes sense, but specifically on the issues facing Indigenous women, the untold stories, and MMIW.” -Kate Milligan
VNN Director and VNN Oklahoma Lead Journalist Brittany Harlow met Kate through the Builders + Backers “Idea Accelerator”.
The two deepened their connection after both were accepted into the Builders + Backers 2024 Stepping Stones Program following the Idea Accelerator.
“The work Kate is doing through 1 Girl Revolution is truly inspiring. Her ability to find and elevate real stories of unsung female heroes from across the country is exactly what we strive to amplify through the Verified News Network (VNN) platform. Our newest affiliate is a true gem in the media world, and we are looking forward to the collaborative work we will accomplish in the future!” -Brittany Harlow
The announcement of 1 Girl Revolution’s first publication on the VNN app coincides with MMIW AWARENESS DAY, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S).
The latest episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, Medicine Wheel Ride – Shelly Denny highlights the story of a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising awareness and support for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women (MMIW) and their families.
Shelly Denny’s activism started in her teen years and she became an organizer and volunteer in groups like Earth First, Food Not Bombs, Catholic Worker Community, and Indigenous rights groups in various peace and justice issues.
After seeing the egotism and anger that can get in the way of good activist work, Shelly took a break from direct action to work on internal healing of trauma and addiction and develop healthy and productive modes of coping with obstacles and difficulties.
