“Justice on the Reservation” to address crimes committed against children
(MUSCOGEE NATION) Recent data from Oklahoma’s Department of Human Services shows American Indian children continue to face disproportionate levels of child neglect and abuse across the state, including 20 percent of substantiated abuse and neglect cases in 2023 despite making up only 14 percent of the population.
Domestic violence homicides in Oklahoma among nation’s highest
(OKLAHOMA) Domestic violence homicides in Oklahoma decreased slightly in 2022, but the number of incidents remain among the highest in the nation, according to the annual report just released by the Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board. Domestic homicide numbers for the past four years are substantially higher than numbers prior to 2019.
Same-sex marriage amendment fails to pass MCN subcommittee 1-3
(MUSCOGEE NATION) Legislation to codify same-sex marriage in Muscogee Creek Nation failed to pass the Business, Finance, & Justice Committee Thursday night, with one in favor of the legislation and three against. Muscogee Creek Nation Council Representative Dode Barnett (Creek District Seat A), who sponsored the legislation, was the only yes vote.
