Hey Verified News Community! I’m VNN’s Brittany Harlow.
Thanks for joining me for a quicker and new kind of News Byte.
We have a lot on our plates at VNN as we gear up to facilitate The Gathering Business Summit at Choctaw Casino in Durant with the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma in a couple weeks!
Right after The Gathering, our team is holding our first ever Intertribal Symposium, “Indigenous Roots: Navigating Indian Country History” with Osage News at Osage Casino Tulsa. We will be making a BIG announcement during the symposium, so stay tuned!
Want a hint? Check out our latest story on the Indian Rights Association.
As we’ve navigated the planning for these events, we’ve also been staying on top of news coverage.
Earlier this month, VNN Oklahoma’s Rachael Schuit followed up with a software provider about the mental health crisis impacting Oklahoma after the switch from SoonerCare to Managed Care. Over 100 jobs were lost and even whole agencies have been forced to close.
VNN Oklahoma’s Trista Vaughn covered the 100 year anniversary of the passage of the Indian Citizenship Act.
Our affiliate Osage News covered the Osage Nation Congressional election, where five incumbents were reelected as well as a former congresswoman.
Osage News also talked with Susan Bayro, the first Osage Citizen to be elected as the Mayor of Pawhuska, and Bart Perrier, who is projected to be the first Osage Citizen to be Sheriff of Osage County.
